Frequently Asked Questions

Why plastic-free?

Small things add up, especially when it comes to waste. Sqwishful sponges are made of natural materials so they don’t contribute to plastic waste that ends up in oceans or never leaves landfills.

What natural materials?

100% plant-based cellulose (a kind of wood pulp) made from trees that are sustainably grown.

Why compressed?

Sqwishful sponges are lighter and smaller when compressed, which decreases their carbon footprint.

How do they work?

Simply run the sponge under water to pop it up. It’s designed to expand and fit your hand with angles for cleaning corners and edges, so you can #sqwishsqwishdish.

Where can I use them?

Sqwishful sponges are perfect for light dishwashing and keeping countertops, sinks, and surfaces clean. In fact, one sponge can outlast the use of 30 paper towel rolls. For more tips, check out our Instagram to see how you can get the most out of your new favorite sponge.

When you're ready to replace it, compost it! Depending on the condition of your soil, your sponge should compost in one month and can be added to gardening beds. Or give your yard a little love by filling bald spots with old sponge scraps, water and seeds.

Are the colors dyes?

The white is un-dyed and the mint is an organic pigment.

I love the packaging, what’s it made of?

Our packaging is made from recycled paper and FDA/USDA approved low density poly bags. We’re excited to be making the switch to 100% compostable bags soon, so hold tight!

Where’s my sponge made?

From the renewable forests where we source our cellulose to the shop where we compress and hand die-cut each one, all our sponges are made in the US.

Will there be more styles?

How do I care for my sponge?

To ensure that your sponge stays fresher and lasts longer, when using, fold the sponge in half and rub its sides together to clean it, and make sure to rinse and squeeze the water out after each use. Place it in a dry spot to air dry, and replace your sponge when the time comes. Remember, all good sponges go to compost!

Can I microwave, boil, or wash my sponge in a dishwasher?
Short answer: yes (but make sure your sponge is wet before you microwave it). Long answer: new studies show that these methods don’t really clean your sponge. Read about it here and here. Instead, these studies recommend replacing it.
How often should I replace it?

In spite of studies that recommend replacing your sponge two to four times a month, with proper sponge care, your sponge should last a whole month.
